Meet one of our favorite modern Southern girls, Elisabeth Epperson, of Elisabeth & Butter! Maravea is so honored to be collaborating with Elisabeth.
A native of Montgomery, Alabama, Elisabeth grew up baking with her mom and sisters. Quite the entrepreneur, she started her own baking business at age 15. After graduating from Auburn University, where she continued to bake and sell delicious and beautifully artistic cookies, Elisabeth moved to Charleston, SC, and launched her baking blog from her established Instagram page. Maravea: What's your favorite family recipe to bake?
Elisabeth: "My favorite family recipe is probably my mom's carrot cake. My mom got the recipe when she was in college and it has such a story. We have made this cake for almost every birthday and holiday for years, and it is the best carrot cake I've ever tasted."
Maravea: If you could have lunch with anyone who would it be and why?
Elisabeth: "I would probably say Ina Garten of Barefoot Contessa. I have watched her cooking show and read her cookbooks my whole life, and I absolutely love her food and her style. I would have lunch with her at her Hamptons home and ask her all about her journey in the culinary world."
Maravea: Do you have a favorite baker?
Elisabeth: "Does Ree Drummond from the Pioneer Woman count as a baker? I would absolutely love to meet her because I've never tried a recipe of hers I didn't like. She has been my go-to for cinnamon rolls, pecan pie, and so many other desserts. I love her fun personality and I think we would be great friends."
Maravea: Congratulations on your engagement! Tell us about your future husband.
Elisabeth: "Thank you!! I am thrilled to be getting married to Daniel Farris! Daniel is from Montgomery as well and we grew up together because he was best friends with my older brother. We started dating in college at Auburn and he is my best friend. He brings out the best in me and constantly leads me closer to the Lord. We are getting married on October 21st and I couldn't be more excited!"
Maravea: Can you share with us your goals for Elisabeth & Butter?
Elisabeth: "I honestly started my Instagram and blog with no expectations for anything coming from it, but simply because I love to bake and do it just about every single day. It has been incredible seeing the response from my blog and I am so thankful for all the amazing collaborations, opportunities and new friends that I've gained from it. My dream is to write a cookbook one day and be on Food Network, but for now I'm just enjoying running my blog and helping people learn to bake."
Maravea: Best advice for those intimidated by baking?
Elisabeth: "My advice for those intimidated by baking is to get in the kitchen and start out by making and easy recipe and work on getting down the basics. Baking takes practice and once you get the hang of it, it can be so therapeutic!"
